Walk With Us to Cure Lupus 2010
Saturday May 15th, Walkers gathered at the Theis Park in downtown KC, Mo. to Walk to raise funds for Lupus Research. A great big thank you to Callie Hobkirk for joining us for the day to help Lauren Sage paint faces. The first face painting of the day was for Eddie Kennison of the Eddie Kennsion foundation, sponsor of the event. Although the day was rainy, spirits were high as people gathered to walk in order to raise funds for research on Lupus. Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic, potentially devastating autoimmune disease in which the immune system turns against the body's own cells and tissues, causing inflamation and tissue damage. Lupus can affect many parts of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, blood vessels and brain. Lupus affects people of all ages, including children, but it most often strikes people when they are between the ages of 15 and 45. Nine out of ten people with lupus are women.
